Creating Everyday Tay - How I Built My Blog from Scratch

How It Started
When I decided to start a blog, I honestly thought it would be just like setting up a social media account, you sign up, and most of the groundwork is already done. Not so much. I had no idea that you literally had to create an entire website from scratch.
I had zero experience with web design, besides a basic website design class in high school. However as an artist I've always been comfortable with design and computer work, but building a website? That was new territory.
Finding My Style
One thing about me is, if I’m doing something, I’m going all in. I didn’t want to just create a blog that didn’t fit exactly who I am and what I’m trying to build. Being so artistic, I’ve always had a very specific style and eye that’s uniquely mine. That’s also the part that tends to hang me up, I need everything to look perfect and be something I truly love. Not for anyone else, but for me. I have to love it. I have to be happy with it.
Once I was in the groove of how things worked, then came picking the name. I wanted something unique to myself and could grow and evolve with me. It came pretty naturally, Everyday Tay, tying my goals for the everyday to day things and of course me. You're online bestie, cheerleader, creator, coach, and fellow mom in the thick of it.
Rekindling My Creativity
The more I got into designing my website, the more it became a true creative outlet for me. I grew up surrounded by art with my whole family being artistic. It’s a part of me, as natural as my hands or feet. My creative side is something I’m deeply proud of and always will be.
But as life got busy, working full-time, becoming a mom, I realized it had been years since I’d drawn or done anything artistic.
Since I had never built a website before, I knew I needed to start with a template. Something I do far too often is get stuck at the starting point. Always worrying about it being perfect right away, when really, you just have to start and figure it out as you go. My grandpa always told me, “There are no mistakes in art,” and that’s something that has always stuck with me, no matter what kind of art I’m doing, whether it’s on a computer or a piece of paper.
The Restart
Funny enough, I actually restarted my entire blog design after about a month of working on it. I had gotten pretty far, but I just wasn’t loving the direction it was going. I’ve been working on my personal brand for a while now, probably about a year, so I already had a solid foundation of what I wanted to create. While browsing through other templates for inspiration, I stumbled upon one that was perfect. The vision finally clicked, and within a week I was able to finish the whole thing.
Why I Started Everyday Tay
This wasn’t just about crossing something off my 30 Before 30 list; it was about why I wanted to start a blog in the first place. Originally, it came from my desire to share more pieces of myself. I’ve always loved writing and tapping into that inner creative side of mine. I used to think I couldn’t start a blog because I didn’t have any formal writing experience outside of high school or college. But turns out, I can do it. I can start a blog. I can be a writer. I am a writer. And with my personal assistant (ChatGPT) by my side, we can pretty much do anything… LOL.
Just Start
Creating Everyday Tay has been such a fulfilling and eye-opening process. What started as a simple idea turned into a journey of rediscovering my creativity, pushing past perfectionism, and trusting myself to learn as I go.
This blog isn’t just a space for me to write, it’s a reflection of my growth, my motherhood, my creativity, and the life I’m building one step at a time. I’m excited to keep creating, sharing, and connecting with others who are chasing their own dreams too.
If there’s one thing I hope Everyday Tay inspires, it’s that you don’t need to have it all figured out to start. You just have to start.
So here’s to creating, learning, and growing every single day.
